Tilley Lamps

The Tilley company was established in 1818 by the Tilly Family operating as Brass ware Founders and High Pressure Gas Fitters.
1919 saw  Frederick Charles Tilley and William Henry Tilly working on the Tilley Incandescent  Vapour Oil Lamp, to give it its full name. This was to replace Pressure Petrol Lamps that were being marketed by other companies as Paraffin was cheaper and safer
By 1921 The bugs had been worked out and a good variety was on the market, Tilley became so sucessful that they have become a generic word almost any Paraffin Lamp that can be carried by a handle is now refered  to as Tilley
